Child Protection and Out of Home Care Consultations
KNC have staff with considerable expertise across all levels of child protection and out of home care service delivery and the research and practice information relevant to these areas of work. KNC pride themselves in specialising in evidenced based practice and can provide agencies with case consultations around casework practice in these areas. Staff working with KNC have specialist expertise in the areas of child sexual assault, domestic violence, substance misuse, Shaken Baby, family finding and contact with birth family for children in out of home care.
At the point of referral agency staff will be asked to provide a brief outline of the current issues and any relevant documents identifying current concerns. After this a meeting will be booked with one or more staff from the agency. The provision of accurate background information allows KNC staff to attend the meeting fully prepared to share knowledge and expertise and to make recommendations for future action.
Aboriginal Consultations
Referrals can be made for a consultation with one of our Aboriginal assessors to support non-Aboriginal practitioners to ensure their assessments and/or practice is culturally competent. This can include a verbal or written consultation and may include guidance only to the worker, or direct engagement with the child or family, depending on what is required for each matter.
